Dimitri Mamczur was the inspiration for Dimitri House. . . .
~Dimitri owned no house, drove no car, held no bank account, and yet Dimitri was rich ...... rich in the eyes of God.~
Our drop-in program is open Tuesday-Thursday in the afternoon from 1:30-4:30 year round. It is a friendly and safe atmosphere where people on the street, homeless or not, can gather, have a meal and address, with a counselor, any issues they may be experiencing. Such issues might include health, housing, public assistance, clothing needs, etc. During the weekday drop-in, we have peers from Rochester Mental Health available. We offer HIV and TB testing on a regular basis. Holidays are celebrated at our Drop-in program throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities are available.
Our seven bed shelter is open from November through April, seven nights per week. We provide all the comforts of home - comfy beds, clean bedding, showers, laundry facilities, a light meal in the evening and a hearty breakfast in the morning. Our guests arrive at 9:30 in the evening and leave at 7:00 am. They have the opportunity to stay for an extended period of time in order to 'get back on track'. Volunteer opportunities are available.
The Men's Emergency Winter Shelter has the following volunteer opportunities are available:
Greeter - The responsibilities of the greeter are to welcome the shelter guests into the house and check their id's. If there is an overflow of guests, it is the greeter's job to find other housing the overflow guests. The greeter makes coffee and prepares a small snack for the men. It's good to check the shelter log so as to be familiar with the men who are staying at Dimitri House and to check for messages or notes left by staff.
Ministers of Hospitality - The responsibilities of the ministers or hospitality or MOH's are to engage in conversation with the men during the evening and then to see to it that all men are in bed by 11:00 pm and lights are out. In the morning, wake early, make coffee and breakfast. Wake guests at 6:00 a.m. serve breakfast and clean up. Guests and MOH's leave by 7:00 am.
More detailed instructions are available for interested volunteers.

Holiday Program: |
Our Thanksgiving holiday program is available to families living in our zip code service area who have children under the age of 18. Families in need may call the first Monday in October to sign up for a Thanksgiving basket. Our families are told that their baskets will include a traditional (uncooked) Thanksgiving meal. This is an 'adopt-a-family' program therefore families in need are adopted out to families and businesses who would like to provide for a family in need. We begin taking donor names in mid-October. Donor families can deliver the baskets to their adopted family or they can bring the basket to Dimitri House for delivery. Volunteer opportunities are available.
